Based in Los Angeles, the Digital Director plays a pivotal role in helping a progressive elected office harness technology and innovative digital strategies to advance its vision, engage communities, and drive meaningful change. This is a leadership role for someone who not only has technical and communications expertise but also thrives on creativity, big ideas, and bold execution. We are seeking candidates with 5+ years of experience who are eager to bring fresh, out-of-the-box thinking to public service and help shape the future of how government connects with people.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Digital Strategy & Innovation

  • Develop and lead a comprehensive digital strategy aligned with the elected office’s goals and priorities.

  • Anticipate and adopt emerging technologies, trends, and platforms to keep the office at the forefront of digital engagement.

  • Encourage and implement creative, experimental approaches to problem-solving and community connection.

 

Website & Social Media Leadership

  • Oversee the design, management, and evolution of the office’s website and social media presence.

  • Drive content creation that is timely, engaging, and inspiring, ensuring the office’s work reaches and resonates with diverse audiences.

  • Monitor engagement and proactively foster online conversations that build trust and participation.

 

Digital Communications & Campaigns

  • Design and execute impactful digital campaigns that amplify successes, policies, initiatives, and events.

  • Collaborate across teams to ensure messaging is clear, consistent, and aligned with broader communications goals.

 

Data & Insights

  • Leverage analytics to measure the impact of digital efforts and inform future strategies.

  • Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) that demonstrate reach, engagement, and effectiveness in advancing outcomes.

 

Technology for Public Service

  • Identify and implement tools and systems that increase government efficiency, transparency, and accessibility.

  • Partner with IT and other departments to deploy technology that improves service delivery and civic engagement.

 

Community Connection

  • Build and expand opportunities for digital engagement, including online forums, interactive town halls, and surveys.

  • Actively seek and incorporate constituent input to ensure digital efforts reflect the community’s voice.

  • Collaborate across agencies and partners to strengthen and share best practices in digital innovation.

 

Team Leadership & Collaboration

  • Manage and mentor a team of content creators and digital staff to produce high-quality, creative work across platforms.

  • Foster a collaborative, innovative culture that empowers the team to experiment, take risks, and push creative boundaries.

  • Provide clear direction, feedback, and support to ensure the team’s work aligns with the office’s values and priorities.

 

Qualifications & Experience

  • 5+ years of professional experience in digital strategy and communications.

  • Proven success leading digital campaigns or initiatives that drive engagement, shift narratives, or build community power.

  • Demonstrated experience managing and inspiring creative teams, with the ability to balance big-picture vision and detail-oriented execution.

  • While serving as the director, also be able to roll up your sleeves as an on-the-ground content creator when needed—capturing video, drafting copy, and creating digital assets when needed to ensure speed, quality, and authenticity.

  • Recognized ability to shape and sustain brand identity on social media, ensuring consistency, authenticity, and resonance across platforms.

  • Strong understanding of digital platforms, analytics, and emerging technologies, with the ability to translate them into real-world impact.

  • Manage vendor relationships, contractors, and technology platforms that support digital operations.

  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with a track record of crafting compelling digital narratives.

  • Commitment to equity and inclusion, with a passion for using digital tools to expand access, uplift communities, and advance social change.

Position & Compensation

This is an exempt, at-will position.  Salary range: $107,000 - $157,000.  Benefits are provided.  We are an in-person team and value collaboration in our Los Angeles-based office.  This role is not remote.
